This cold weather gave us the perfect week to talk about winter animals. We focused mostly on penguins and polar bears but enjoyed reading about other winter and polar animals.

These penguins gave us a chance to sharpen our cutting skills to get ready for kindergarten

We did a science experiment to test how polar bears can be in icy waters and not freeze. We learned that their blubber helps keep them warm. We dipped our bare hands into icy water and then tried it again wrapped in blubber (Crisco). It was amazing to see that our hand wasn't cold.

This friend illustrated a whole book during class with ideas for each page. He took it home and dictated it to his mom. Wow! He said, "It's my very first book." Great job buddy!
More snow people projects
We loved dancing to "party like a penguin" this week where we got to dive, slide and waddle.
Painting polar bears with a paint shaving cream mix. Fluffy and fun
We are getting so smart with our tens frames which they use in kindergarten a ton. This week our number was 12 so we used little stickers (great fine motor activity you can do at home too) to place one in each box to fill the frame and make 12. Most of us knew that 10 + 2=12 by just looking at the frames. Smarties!
These friends are reading their snow book. The know to touch under each word like big kid readers so that each word gets read. So proud of our little class. :)
Mrs. Traci is so good to us! She is finishing up our cute polar bear handprints so they can go home. :)
