Trike-a-thon

What a perfect night for our annual trike-a-thon event! It sure didn't feel like October but we were so grateful for the awesome weather! Thanks to all that could attend and for all of your support.  It was wonderful seeing you and your little ones tonight. :)

A little of this and a little of that!

Since I didn't have a chance to blog last week, this post has pictures from last week's fire safety theme and this week's pumpkin theme. :)
Making firefighter puppets
We loved strengthening our fine motor skills by cutting straws in the sensory table
Each new theme gives us a whole selection of new books to browse through.  We love reading!
We did a great job on our home project...decorating a pumpkin.  I included a few but they were all SO creative!

Mixing red and yellow gives us orange! We discovered this and stamped and wrote "fire" for fire safety week.
Practicing our fire drill
We worked on learning our home address to go with calling 911.
The Lafayette Fire Department visited us and brought their fire truck!  We loved it!
This week we enjoyed the theme pumpkins!  Water coloring is the best.
We worked hard on our table top stations.  Next week we begin all new stations and we're very excited about this!
A wall full of fabulous pumpkins!
We absolutely loved this activity. We used kid friendly hammers and golf tees to hammer into the pumpkins.  This activity strengthens our fingers and hands for writing...and it's so much fun!
More clever pumpkins

We know how to sing "5 Little Pumpkins."
These two smarties used the tinker toys to build these rollers....what a great idea!
More color mixing...they had to figure out exactly how much red and yellow to use to make the perfect orange pumpkin.
Putting numbered pumpkins in order and practice writing each number.

Decorating pumpkins with markers

We predicted the circumference of this pumpkin by cutting the amount of yarn that we thought would go around it. Then we tested our yarn and actually measured it.
Finally, today we dug in!  Some of us loved digging in the seeds and pulp while others preferred to observe. :)
We tested many items in our room to determine what would float and sink.  We were surprised to learn that a pumpkin can float!  *It was such a fun week in kinder-prep learning about pumpkins.  We can't wait for next week!

Apple Week

We a fun week kicking off our fall season with the theme apples!  We learned all about an apple cycle from seed to the apple we pick and eat at the orchard.  We used apples to count, discuss fractions, graph our favorites and even discovered there is a star inside if you cut it horizontally.  Here are some of our cuties in action.
Apple Stamping
We listened to a story called "A Little Red House" where a little boy searched for a house with no windows, no doors but a star inside.  At the end of the story he comes to an apple orchard and our teacher cut the apple in half horizontally to reveal the star inside. We loved this!!
We enjoyed playing "ring around the apple tree"
Our morning table top centers provide us with a new math, literacy or fine motor skill each day!  We love coming in, finding our  name and discovering the new activity we get to do each day.
We had a birthday this week. Happy birthday friend!
We enjoyed taste testing red, green and yellow apples.  Green was the class favorite!
This graph allowed us to count the most, the least, and how many more each one had compared to the other. :)  We also get practice reading our friend's names.
We hope you enjoyed our apple mosaic picture. They look great hanging in a window.
This group worked as a team to put this puzzle together.  That takes a lot of patience and teamwork.  Way to go friends!
We worked on two skill sheets where we rolled a dice this week.  We had to roll, count the dots, then find the number on our sheet until they were all eliminated.
We look like big kindergartners when we come to the table, listen to directions and know what to do.  Our teacher makes us a skill sheet that includes many of the math and literacy skills for the week so we can show how smart we are!
We are authors and illustrators!  We each made a page for a class book that will travel home with each friend to be read and then returned for another classmate.
Independently, we cut out our chosen favorite apple color, leaf and and stem and then glued them in the appropriate place.
We learned all the parts of an apple and can even tell you which one on the diagram is which!
We also added a really neat alphabet to our classroom this week.  Each of us decorated one or two letters for this class alphabet to hang on the wall.  It looks so great and colorful!
*What a fun week learning about apples!  Enjoy your fall break with your family and I will see you in two weeks for our theme firefighters/fire safety. :)
