More Winter Fun!

The last two weeks we've continued our winter themes with polar bears and then with exploring snow and ice. We've been reading many books about snow and singing about it, yet no actual snow for us to play in! I don't think we'll see any snow this week but our class is really hoping for some big snow soon! Until then, we'll just have to explore winter topics in our class with our imaginations. :) Here are some pictures of what we've been up to lately in Pre-K. :)

Painting polar bears with a puffy snow like paint

One friend just got back from an exciting trip and had pictures to share!

WOW! What a great train!

Exploring more arctic worlds in the rice table

A painting of two friends complete with names! Such a smart boy!

Working together to create a rescue hero city

We love to show our teachers how smart we are!

Reading a book to the class like a teacher! :)

We used dice to create addition math problems

Can you believe we can write words that relate to our theme?

We sorted snowmen based on their features.

Our family homework involved creating a snowman of our choice. They were ALL fabulous! Here are a couple. :)

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!!

We have been collecting pop tabs and pennies for Preston, a little boy undergoing treatment for cancer. Our class is so eager to give and their hearts are SO big! I am amazed at such a young age how much they want to help this little boy. Thank you parents for your help!

Watercolors are so much fun no matter what we are painting. :)

We love to write all of the letters and words we know on dry erase boards like our teachers do!

Snow and ice week would not be complete without a little ice exploration.

Finally, we painted some beautiful self portraits to hang on our walls. What a good looking bunch! :)

Penguins!

We started off the new year with our polar animal unit. This week we had fun learning about penguins. We learned that they ARE birds but cannot fly. We loved singing the chorus to our favorite penguin song..."Mr. Penguin, I can't teach you to fly-like the birds and the bees and the bugs that soar way above the sky." Maybe your child can sing it to you! We loved pretending to be penguins by waddling, sliding, swimming and jumping. It was easy making penguins with our footprint and potatoes as stamps. We can't wait to learn about polar bears next week!

Our sensory table has blue rice with polar animals and icebergs so we can pretend we are in the arctic too!

We LOVE our new student!! We are so glad you've joined our class.

We love sharing the adventures Chester the Cheetah goes on each week.

We are already stamping and writing our last names! Such smarties :)

We're sharpening our cutting skills too!

Love our footprint penguins!

Penguins stamped with two sizes of potatoes

One friend even brought in real pictures of penguins. So cool!

We used colored frogs to make patterns. We learned that two repeating colors is an "AB" pattern. Once we mastered that type of pattern we tried repeating colors and more color combinations.

Then we read our color words to make more patterns

It was a good week to get out the parachute since we couldn't go outside. We tried to keep our little friends (stuffed animals) from popping out. Of course the popping out was the fun part! ha!

*What a great week at school with some fabulous friends!

Christmas week at LAP!

We had so much fun our last two weeks before winter break with Christmas activities! We used our creativity to make several special gifts and ornaments for the tree. We got to learn about the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus and celebrated his birthday with a sundae party! We were busy, busy elves in our room working and creating to make it a special holiday. :)

Using food coloring and corn starch to create a bright holiday light painting

Painting beautiful trees

The stocking were hung by the "calendar" with care. :)

We are writing and reading many letters and words now!

Painting candy canes and realizing it's an upside down "J" for Jesus. :)

Coloring the stable scene

Making reindeer food for Santa's sleigh to see at night!

Yummy! Celebrating Jesus' birthday with sundaes.

The three wiseman...made with our handprints of course. :)
