Our Senses

This week we used our eyes, ears, noses, mouths and hands to explore everything! "Senses" was a great theme to find many activities to do that involved multiple skills. This was definitely one of our favorite themes, especially the tasting part! :)

Working on self portraits

We used our sense of touch to feel around a sock to figure out what shape was inside. Then we drew the shape on our paper.

Sense of taste! We closed our eyes and Mrs. Tracy put a jellybean in our hand and then we tasted and thought long and hard and guessed which fruit flavor we thought it was.

Hmmmmmm...maybe apple?

Thinking hard....maybe grape?

It must be lemon!

We also used our sense of touch to feel many different items and figure out what describing word best fit it. Was it smooth, rough, soft or something else?

We painted some colorful flowers to go on the walls for a nice open house decoration. :)

We also wrote and illustrated our own stories this week! Yes, we are that big! We drew ourselves in any environment we could imagine and then dictated to Mrs. Tracy what we were doing. We are great storytellers!

We used our sense of smell to make flowers with scented cotton balls inside. We hope they made your home or car smell extra good!

We studied a tray of random school items and then Mrs. Tracy made one disappear while our eyes were shut. We used our sense of sight and our good memories to remember what was missing. We loved this game!
We had SO much fun learning about our senses!

Valentines and great books!

This week we finished up our Valentine theme with a fun day full of special cards and treats! The rest of the week found us enjoying great books by Eric Carle. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was our favorite!

Sorting, counting and graphing conversation hearts

Our handprints made a very cute heart...
Add an "I love you" and you have a perfect keepsake. :)

Our hungry caterpillars took some bites off of our leaves

Oh the sunshine....my how we've missed you! Please come again next week! :)

A LOVEly week

Love was in the air at LAP this week as we worked with our friends and families on Valentine projects. Love is "hugs and kisses, rocking babies, helping Mom with dishes and laundry, helping Dad shovel the driveway, and helping friends according to these smart love bugs." I couldn't have said it any better! I am so proud of the love they show each other each and every day at school by playing together, sharing, using kind words and helping each other. Thank you SO much to all that got to come to school to paint pottery. What a special day for us! Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of this post for a video with a special message for you. Happy Valentine's Day!

Nursery Rhymes

This week we enjoyed reading and singing familiar nursery rhymes and learning some new ones too! Since we are beginning readers, we love to listen for the rhyme, rhythm and even repetition in poems and stories because we can chime in and read them too! We are pretty smart you know! :)
Humpty Dumpty made his way into our classroom

We carefully passed Humpty Dumpty around to our friends and tried our best not to let him have "a great fall."
This took great concentration and a steady hand. :)
Surprisingly, Humpty survived his few falls so then we decided he needed to have his "great fall."
Poor Humpty Dumpty...this doesn't look good, but the kids were so excited!! Who knew how much fun you could have with an egg? :)
Observing the cracked egg
It's amazing to watch the curious minds of a preschooler

Between all the egg fun, we still had time to play cooperatively with our friends. We are getting so big that we can sit with many friends and plan a whole community, a family, a farm, anything our creative minds allow us to think of. Preschool is a fun place to be with friends!
