Dental Health Week!

Who knew learning about teeth could be so much fun?  We loved all of our activities, songs and books learning about our teeth and why it's important to take care of them!  We loved our visit from Dr. Jenkins and his friend "Bobo." 

Morning table top centers...we now come into school and find our birthday printed on a card to know which special activity is ours for the day! 

We used eggs for a little teeth experiment.  We watched as the egg soaking in diet coke stained brown like our teeth would if we didn't brush.  Our egg soaking in vinegar got soft over time showing us what could happen to our enamel if we didn't care for our teeth.   

 

It was fun to put "bacteria" on our pretty white teeth mats and then brush it off clean. 

We used toothbrushes instead of paintbrushes to paint a big smile.   

CHEESE! 

 

We learned which foods were good for our teeth and which foods might not be the best. We decided treats are great sometimes but we will be sure to brush after. :)

Can you believe all we are doing independently?  We sure are looking like kindergartners these days!

We worked on our cutting skills this week too. Our fingers and hands are getting so strong and ready for kindergarten. 

We always have a friend to help us through an activity. 

We loved using real toothbrushes and toothpaste to brush the babies' teeth.  They were definitely clean after this activity (and I'm pretty sure their whole bodies were too!) ha! 

We learned that we have 10 baby teeth on top and 10 on bottom. We used marshmallows to count out and build a mouth. 

Dr. Jenkins came and taught us about caring for our teeth with his friend, Bobo the dragon. We learned to sing our ABC's through 2 times to know how long we should brush. Dr. Jenkins is so funny and left us goody bags! Thank you Dr. Jenkins! 

We can't get enough of Pete the Cat! When we read the book through this time, we stopped and made subtraction sentences to go with Pete losing his buttons. 

Since our new sight word was "at", we worked on rhyming words to go with at.  We discovered that mat, rat and cat rhymed and could build each word and read it!  I love watching all the light bulbs go off in kinder prep as each child becomes little readers and writers! So proud of this class!!
