Polar Express Week!

We had such a fun week riding the Polar Express in class.  Most kiddos have seen the movie, so they knew the book well!  Check out the fun we had. :)
One independent center this week was sorting, counting, and making patterns with bears.  These friends knew just what to do!

We used pattern blocks to create a train shape then counted and graphed the pieces we used.  We learned new shape names like hexagon, trapezoid and parallelogram.  :)

We have now moved on to recognizing and writing our last names.  We made a last name train.

Check out these patterns!

Penguins for letter P!
Pets, ponies and pandas!
More fun P objects!

P is for pajamas! Look at me!

Reviewing our letters...

Merry Christmas from the cutest pajama bunch I've ever seen!
Look at these friends playing a board game all by themselves!!
They said "Look, it's our path to the North Pole!"  How cute is that?!

We used empty thread spools  to make train wheels and clouds.  Then we put together a sentence of what we saw on the Polar Express.

We had small group practice with writing our letters, numbers and simple sentences.  They loved using their little white boards.

We use two finger spaces or a "meatball" space between words.  Between letters within a word we use a spaghetti space. :)

We touch under each word when we read.

Wowzers!  Such smart friends!
We drew a train step by step with directions.  These fun drawings will be in our end of the year portfolio to show growth.

It's time to ride the Polar Express.  Tickets please!

Yummy...hot cocoa, marshmallows and candy canes!

We even got a shiny bell just like the first gift of Christmas in the Polar Express.  Thanks for a fun week friends!  Next week we'll celebrate the true meaning of Christmas....the birth of Jesus!
