Pumpkin Week!

We had a super fun week investigating pumpkins!  We also got to finish out our fire safety unit from before break with a visit from Lafayette Fire Department.  We always love when they visit!
Mr. Ryan taught us all about fire safety and showed us his cool gear.

We got to walk through the truck and look around.  So cool!

Pumpkin painting time!
This activity was at the independent table.  These smarties did such a good job cutting out the pumpkin and putting together a jack-o-lantern face on their own!

We learned about tally marks while we graphed different pumpkin faces. So smart!

We had fun exploring the fall and Halloween stamps

C is for cat!
C is for car!
C is for yummy food items like corn, cupcakes, crackers and candy corn!
And we learned that C can make the "s" sound like Cinderella!  Perfect choice!

We can't forget crocodile, camera, candle and Clone!
We like to act out simple addition and subtraction stories with ourselves. In this problem, we had 4 boys that were at Harvest Homecoming and then 3 girls joined them.  They act out the story and then we write the number sentence.  Our number this week was 7 and we made many combinations of 7 with our stories (6+1, 2+5 etc...).

Yummy!  We taste tested pumpkin seeds and graphed our results!  We realized most of our friends liked pumpkin seeds and only a few didn't. :)

We investigated out pumpkin's size.  We made towers with cubes and then counted to determine how tall it was.

We predicted whether our pumpkins would sink or float.  Some of us were surprised that they could float. :)

We LOVED using kid friendly hammers and tees to hammer into the pumpkin.  This was a fabulous fine motor activity!

More sink and float fun!  We always predicted what we thought would happen then tested it out.

Finally, it was time to dig in and pull out the seeds.  Look at these brave kiddos!

We placed our seeds into groups of 10 and did our best to count them.  We came up with around 260 seeds!  Wow!

A HUGE thank you to Easton and Loftus Farms for donating these beautiful pumpkins to our class for next week's fun!  We are so grateful and will have a blast painting these during the party.  :)  Thank you!!!
